Richens Eye Center - Sunset

My insurance covers one routine eye exam every year. I have received that yearly, preventative eye exam at Richens for a handful of years each summer. I had a routine, preventative eye exam in July 2025. At the end of the appointment, I was told it was covered by insurance (like it is every year since it is preventative). However, I now keep receiving a bill that says I need to pay for this preventative exam. My insurance said Richens is billing it incorrectly/not as an annual, preventative exam. I have spoken to Richens’ employees and they keep saying they will take care of it. Each time, a few months later, I receive another copy of the bill, and a new Richens employee telling me it isn’t covered. I am unsure why they are not billing my annual, preventative, covered exam like they have every year. I have no proof (except my confirmation email telling me my appointment was scheduled) that I scheduled the appointment as a preventative, routine eye exam so I have no way of showing my insurance that the fault lies with Richens. Unfortunately, this experience means I will be finding a new eye clinic to conduct my annual, preventative eye exam even though I have been a happy, satisfied Richens patient for years up until now.

First appointment was simple, quick and fact filled. The staff is beyond knowledgeable and kind.

Had my eyelids done and decided to get a few more things done. Omgosh Dr Tarbet is an artist. Only 10 days out but pics to follow. I can already see what an amazing job she did and everyone in the office and at the surgery center were so professional, kind and patient. Great experience all around as far as surgery goes. Dr Tarbet called a few times after surgery to check on me. Thank you to all!

Everyone in the office has been so attentive and professional. Doctors Wagner and Albernaz and the techs have patiently answered my questions and have been very kind about my hesitation for cataract surgery. I feel very confident in their care. I highly recommend this office and their staff.

Dr Richens is an excellent doctor. She is thorough and extremely professional. Her staff is well informed and can answer many questions. I would not trust my eye care to anyone else.
