I’ve been a patient of Dr. Brose for a few years now but I’m looking for a new GP at this point. Unfortunately she flat lied to my face at our last appointment, and that’s really my last straw.
I seem to have a very painful autoimmune disease that is causing me a lot of pain. KU thinks I have a genetic auto immune disease based on my symptoms but it takes months to be seen, I’m on the wait list. She refused to give medications to help, which fine, I understand a pain management doctor would be better. She said she would refer me to such a specialist, but none called for an appointment and when I called to check on the referral I was told to call my insurance company, who was as useless as you can imagine. I did find one in the end.
I also had a problem with profuse vomiting, it was pulling teeth to get medication to help with that and they referred me to a cancer center in California ( I’m in Missouri) which caused me lots of stress thinking I needed their services, I thought they suspected cancer and so I needed something from that office as it was their specialty. Turns out they just googled and picked the first office that popped up. The referral was just wrong.
She revoked refills on my anti nausea meds, none of which were narcotics. I need them in several forms because if I don’t catch it early, I can’t swallow the medicine and keep it down. Resulting in an Er visit, that gives me Valium and sends me on my way. I’m still trying to find help for that, but I should be able to have some on hand so I don’t have to pay thousands at the Er for want of a low dose of Valium.
Their referrals get so messed up, I haven’t been able to get help from any of them. The vomiting and anxiety resulted in several trips to the ER where a small dose of Valium stopped it. I also found a pain doctor who actually looked at my MRI’s and scans and immediately gave me real medications to help. My joints are disintegrating and I have bone on bone movement and lack of cartilage, bone spurs, it’s a mess. But I found all these doctors on my own because the referrals were so messed up.
I made sure Dr. Brose had all of my records and scans, and yet she treats me like I’m trying to start my own cartel. All I’ve asked from her was enough to keep me out of the ER because it’s too expensive. I had no problem with getting a few doses and calling to let her know when I needed them, and going from there. She then told me it was illegal to prescribe me the Valium with my pain medication because it would drop my blood pressure and I could die. That was entirely false. There are lots of pain patients on both medications, in fact it’s helpful because pain raises blood pressure. My blood pressure is already high, lowering it isn’t going to hurt me, in fact it would help.
My pain doctor told me that it’s no problem to be on both, several of his patients are on both. A GP should be able to manage that. There are no laws or rules against it. She sees me as a criminal for some reason and just refuses to help. I understand I might not be in her wheelhouse, but the referrals have been so messed up that I had to find my own specialists and fight the insurance myself.
The lying to me is what has really prompted me to find another provider. If she’s worried about her license or the Feds cracking down on her, I could understand, but she should at least get me to a doctor that can help. Lying to me and dismissing me is really what I can’t allow. I don’t deserve to be in pain unable to spend time with friends and family while there’s perfectly good medication to help me cope. I’m really done with doctors treating people like this. No one deserves to be lied to.
So I hope this helps someone. If you want nutrition counseling, skin treatments, or maybe antibiotics for a sinus infection, Dr. brose might be adequate. But if you’re really sick and need a referral to a specialist or medication, I would not bother with making an appointment here. You’d be better off googling st. Luke’s or KU med doctors and finding out what your insurance requires.
